Position Title: Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Department: Golf Course Maintenance
Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent
Position Overview
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is a year-round position. The Assistants duties include but are not limited to, overseeing the maintenance and operation of the golf course, including turf management, landscaping, irrigation systems, equipment, and staff. This role works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure the course remains in excellent condition for daily play, tournaments, and events. The Assistant Superintendent helps manage the day-to-day operations and is involved in planning, organizing, and supervising maintenance activities to ensure quality standards are met.
Experience Required
- Education:
- Turf Certificate or Associate's degree in turf management, horticulture, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- NH Pesticide License is required, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in golf course maintenance or landscape management, with some supervisory experience preferred.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of turfgrass science, irrigation systems, pest control, and golf course maintenance practices.
- Ability to operate and maintain golf course equipment and tools.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including manual labor when necessary.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Essential Responsibilities
Turfgrass Management:
- Assist in the maintenance of tees, greens, fairways, roughs, and other golf course areas.
- Monitor and implement turfgrass management programs, including fertilization, pest control, aeration, and overseeding.
- Assess and address turf health and soil conditions, applying appropriate treatments when necessary.
Irrigation System Maintenance:
- Help manage and maintain the golf course’s irrigation system, ensuring proper water distribution.
- Oversee irrigation scheduling and monitor system efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and repair any issues with irrigation systems as needed.
Team Supervision:Supervise and lead maintenance staff, providing direction on daily tasks, safety procedures, and quality standards.Assist with training, scheduling, and evaluating staff performance.Ensure all work is completed efficiently, following safety protocols.Equipment Maintenance:
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of golf course maintenance equipment.
- Ensure equipment is in safe working condition and properly maintained.
Course Set-Up and Preparation:Prepare the golf course for daily play, tournaments, and special events by ensuring course features are set up properly (e.g., pin placements, tee markers).Course Improvement Projects:
- Assist in the planning and implementation of golf course renovation or improvement projects.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with the Golf Course Superintendent, team members, and golf course management.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations and high-quality guest experiences.
