Pay rate for this position is $17.00 an hour. This is a great opportunity to work with the city's youth in a fun and rewarding atmosphere. All hired counselors will be required to attend a two-day paid training which includes CPR. Summer Camp Counselors will actively participate in camp events outdoor pool visits field trips arts and crafts sports games drama performances and hobbies. Provide a safe and fun learning environment for elementary-aged children while practicing and modeling all City safety protocols. Summer camp counselor is a full time eight (8) week program plus additional training hours.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities

- Plans and leads activities such as arts and crafts; sports; games; outdoor pool visits; swimming; cook-outs; nature walks; field trips; and camp events.
- Maintain and enforce safety rules and regulations in the recreational facilities and other City property.
- Performs first aid following prescribed procedures and contacts emergency medical personnel when required by the situation.
- Demonstrates use of recreational equipment and teaches participants the principles; techniques; and safety procedures for each activity.
- Greets new arrivals and introduces them to other campers; explains camp and facility rules.
- Interacts professionally with parents and public.
- Reports camper and parent complaints to leadership and works to resolve issues.
- Must attend staff meetings and orientation during the summer season.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required. Previous experience working in camp; youth programming; recreation; working with children; or related fields is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Primary duties of this position involve: running; swimming; participating in sports; crafts; and supervising children. Work is performed inside and outside in all weather conditions. Current position includes some limited physical requirements including: lifting and assisting children weighing approximately 20-100lbs.
